Family of murdered Yei mayor disappointed over lack of justice

The daughter of late mayor of Yei, Central Equatoria, Celia Oba Tito is seeking for justice for the murder of her mother.

Cecilia was murdered by unknown gunmen in the South Sudanese capital Juba in November 2014

Since that time, some suspects were arrested and the Central Equatoria state government expressed commitment to bring the suspects to book but there has been no resolution.

Fibi Kojo told Radio Tamazuj that she is very disappointed over the delayed investigation into her mother's killing..

“The lawyer who was holding the case told us that one of the people is in the Ugandan side because the third name is not yet got, so they are still on the lookout on the identity of that person," she said.

"The other two guys were released, but investigations are still going on, and they may get back. The main guy her husband is still there. Am very disappointed because many people asking me, what is happening? What the government is doing?"

Activists in Yei River County have called on the ministry of justice to speed up the court ruling.

Roseline Nadia, chairperson of Yei women association, said they are unhappy over lack of justice accorded to women's rights in the society.

“Up to now, her case has not been revealed. We need to say out that we women are still worried till today, as women we need to know the reasons behind the killing," she said.

"We are speaking on our rights," Rosaline continued. "A woman is killed and this has left a big gap. If we are finished like that who will take over?”

Efforts to reach the ministry of justice for media comments have not been successful.
