The family of a young man shot dead by an SSPDF officer attached to the National Security Service (NSS) in Bor, Jonglei State earlier last week, is demanding justice.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj, Michael Buol, the family’s representative, expressed sadness over the killing of his 23-year-old nephew, Akoon Deng Anyith, and demanded that justice be delivered without prejudice.
“Firstly, regarding the incident, the deceased was not driving. He was footing with his friends when this officer who was driving a car splashed water on them,” Buol narrated. “When the deceased reacted to this, the officer stopped, parked his car, and came and fought him subsequently shooting him dead with a pistol and then fled the scene.”
The family’s representative stated they would remain calm as the law took its course and demanded that the murderer be punished accordingly.
“We are devastated. The deceased just got married. Again, this National Security Service (NSS) officer was the one who splashed water on the boys instead of apologizing when he stopped, he chose to fight,” Buol said. “Our stance as a family is that the case should go on and there should be no interference from anyone.”
Meanwhile, Daniel Deng Anyang, a civil society activist in Bor, condemned the incident and called on the traffic police to provide civic education to enlighten road users on traffic rules and regulations.
He urged uniformed personnel to abide by the country’s law to improve the relationship between civilians and security organs.
