The family of a 14-year-old South Sudanese boy, who lost his hand on Tuesday while working at an Egyptian company in Cairo, is suing the company for employing a minor and injuries.
The boy’s uncle Mayom Chan Ring told Radio Tamazuj on Wednesday that Manyil Chol Manyil was injured in an accident at a shoe company where he worked as a manual laborer.
"The child was injured and his right hand was cut off. We are waiting to see the health of our son and then follow the justice process against the company," he said.
He added that one of the company’s officials has been arrested and Manyil is undergoing treatment.
Chan pointed out that South Sudanese refugees face a lot of challenges in Egypt. He said families and children, in particular, are forced to look for work in order to cater for basic needs including school fees.
