The family of Western Lakes politician and former state parliament speaker Marik Nanga Marik is demanding that their son be given his legal rights including the right to know the charges against him and the right to a trial.
Marik Nanga was arrested by national security agents in the town of Rumbek on 28 February.
Nyanawan Ayom, wife of detained politician Marik Nanga Marik, told Radio Tamazuj on Tuesday that the family is asking the government to release Nanga.
Ayom further said she has not heard from her husband since last month, and is pleading for his release.
Speaking from Juba she said, “My husband is detained in Maper Village where there is no mobile network after being moved from Rumbek town last week. My husband should be taken to court if he has committed a crime.”
“Marik was taken to the village on orders of the state governor. Also, we want the government to allow the family to see him,” she added.
Ayom said they are concerned about Marik’s health condition in Maper Village in Rumbek North County.
Government officials in Western Lakes could not immediately be reached for comment.
