The family of Pathomi Ayul, the detained journalist of Al-Masar Arabic newspaper, is demanding their son be released as he spends eight months in detention in the capital Juba.

Ayul was arrested by national security officials on 20 May for unclear reasons.

His wife Joy Oliver told Radio Tamazuj on Friday that Pathomi was still in detention centres of the South Sudan government's spy agency known as National Security Services (NSS).

She called on the relevant authorities to immediately and unconditionally release her husband, pointing out that Pathomi is being held without charge or trial.

Joy said that the family is extremely concerned for the well-being of Pathomi in detention.” The government has not announced the reason for his arrest. What we know is that Pathomi is a journalist,” she said.

“We want to the security to tell us the problem, but they always say they have not yet received orders to release Pathomi,” she added.

The wife called upon the relevant authorities in South Sudan to release her husband.
