The family of the opposition official Dong Samuel, who went missing from Kenya early this year, said they have not heard anything about his whereabouts.
Human rights advocate Dong Samuel Luak and Aggrey Idri Izbon, both senior members of South Sudan’s armed opposition led by Riek Machar, went missing from the Kenyan capital in January.
According to rights groups, the two men are believed to have been abducted by or at the request of South Sudan officials and taken illegally to Juba.
Dong’s relative Polit Gok Waar told Radio Tamazuj today that no one knows something about Dong who was abducted in January from Nairobi.
“We hear rumours that Dong is in Juba and sometimes we hear that he is in Kenya, so we don’t have credible information until now,” he said.
Waar called on whoever is detaining Dong to release him immediately so he can return to his family.” Now we are living in suspense. We have never been informed whether Dong is dead or alive. We want to have information as family members,” he said.
He pointed out that Dong had been a vocal critic of human rights abuses before the outbreak of South Sudan civil war.
