Family appeals for trial of jailed Wau ex-official

The family of John Peter Miskin, the former commissioner of Wau County, have appealed for a fair trail or his release. Miskin had disagreed with Governor Rizik Zacharia during the political crisis in October over transferral over the county headquarters to Baggari. He resigned from his post during this dispute, after which he was placed under house arrest. The former commssioner was under house arrest for three weeks.  When the governor lifted the house arrest, Miskin left for Juba via Tombura.  On the way he was arrested in Yambio and taken by a plane sent from Juba to the Kwajok airport, the nearest to Wau.  He arrived in Kwajok on 6 November and was transferred to Wau the following day after spending a night in a military prison. Family members have not been allowed to visit Miskin, not even to bring him food. He is said to be detained in a CID detention facility in Wau. The family are concerned that Miskin could be tortured and they request that he be tried in a civilian court. If found guilty, he should be taken to a civilian prison they contend. “Is resigning from a government institution a crime?” asked a relative of the prisoner speaking to Radio Tamazuj.
