A three-day peace conference between the Fallata and Salamat tribes started on Saturday in Kass town in Sudan’s South Darfur State, a traditional leader said.

Fighting between the Fallata and Salamat tribes in August last year left dozens of people dead and wounded from the two sides.

Yusuf Al Samani, nazir of the Fallata tribe, told Radio Tamazuj that the conference began on Saturday and that it will end on Monday. He said the peace meeting aimed at reaching peace and stopping hostilities between the two feuding tribes.

He pointed to mutual understandings between the two sides at the peace conference. He added that two separate meetings with representatives of the two tribes were held in an attempt to bring the viewpoints of the feuding tribes closer.

The traditional leader noted that the meeting will try to follow up on resolutions adopted during a previous meeting held in September last year in Buram town.

Al Samani pointed out that the peace conference was held under the auspices of the native administration. The conference is scheduled to conclude today.
