A peaceful coexistence conference between the Falata and Salamat tribes in South Darfur is expected to take place next Saturday, according to Falata Chief Yusuf al-Saman.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj, al-Samani said the conference was initiated by the state legislative assembly to reactivate previous agreements between the two tribes.

Al-Samani also claimed that nine of his tribe’s men are in prison in Nyala town, including three members from the local administration without any charges.

Tribal leaders from Falata tribe were arrested by the local authorities in South Darfur following renewed clashes between the two tribes.
