Faith leaders have called on the UN Security Council to pressure the government to allow more humanitarian access in South Sudan.

Recently, humanitarian organizations have said aid has been blocked in parts of the country including Wau and Yei. During their visit, the UN Security Council reached an agreement with the government to ensure aid across the country.

James Oyit, Secretary General of South Sudan Council of Churches, asked the Security Council to pressure the government to allow access to aid for people affected by war.

In an interview with Radio Tamazuj, Oyit said that people affected by war are in need of assistance but there are restrictions on the humanitarian organizations in addition to insecurity in some areas.

James pointed that the council of churches is not against the deployment of regional troops if its with clear mandate for the protection of civilians and to be deployed in consultation and with consent with the government.
