Eyewitnesses: Govt helicopters hovered over Wau town after reported clashes

Three military helicopters were seen at Wau Airport in South Sudan’s Western Bahr al Ghazal state on Wednesday after reports of clashes between government soldiers and armed opposition forces on Monday, several eyewitnesses said.

The witnesses told Radio Tamazuj two military aircrafts stationed in Wau airport hovered over the town on Tuesday evening.

The SPLA-IO forces had accused the government forces of attacking their positions in Wau County, but the SPLA spokesman Brig. Lul Ruai denied the accusation, after initially admitting he had no information about the clashes.

Lul also denied the presence of any military aircrafts at Wau airport.
