A former South Sudanese security officer was killed in Kenya’s capital Nairobi on Thursday night, relatives said on Friday, after he was attacked by unknown people.
Thong Chuol, a relative who witnessed the incident, told Radio Tamazuj that the deceased Captain Titus Bil Puoch, who had served as a security officer in South Sudan was stabbed to death by unknown people at Ruiru area in Nairobi on Thursday night.
“When the incident happened, we reported it to the police. The police said that the incident will be investigated,” he said.
He further said the body was taken to Kenyatta Hospital for autopsy. The relative pointed out that Bil left Juba in July 2016, adding the deceased was receiving treatment in Nairobi before being killed.
“Bil left Juba before clashes in July last year. Actually he was receiving treatment in Kakuma Refugee Camp before he came to Nairobi,” he said.
Another relative, who preferred anonymity, said Bil’s salary was suspended by the National Security Service in Juba after he stayed for a long period of time in Kenya where he had been receiving treatment. “Bil was staying in Kenya as a refugee,” he said.
South Sudan’s Embassy in Kenya said it had “no information” that a former security officer was killed in Nairobi yesterday night.
South Sudan’s Deputy Ambassador to Kenya, Jimmy Deng Makuac, told Radio Tamazuj that the embassy has not received any complaint from Bil’s family about what happened.
Bil, 35, hailed from Longichuk County in Upper Nile region.
