The former President of the South Sudan Football Association (SSFA), Chabur Goc Alei has been arrested in Juba after a warrant of arrest.

The former President of the South Sudan Football Association (SSFA), Chabur Goc Alei has been arrested in Juba after a warrant of arrest.

Alei, who was the first SSFA President, was found guilty last week of having misappropriated Fifa funds.

Francis Amin, the President of the South Sudan Football Association (SSFA), told Radio Tamazuj that Mr Alei was arrested in Juba on Wednesday morning for misappropriation of the association’s funds.

“Chabor was arrested because he failed to handover the association’s properties. He did not handover a vehicle that belonged to the association and some documents for the association’s land," Amin said.

Amin further said the former SSFA President could not explain how the association borrowed $830,000 from some people during his time in office.

He pointed out that Mr Alei is being held by police authorities at Juba police station.

Former South Sudan FA boss Chabur Goc Alei was banned by world football governing body FIFA last week. The organization said Goc has been banned for 10 years and fined $499,000 for corruption.

But Alei said he will appeal the 10-year fine imposed on him.
