A former Unity State security official has confirmed earlier reports of a rupture between the Unity State Governor Joseph Monytuil and one of his former finance officials, saying also that the latter has survived an attempt on his life on Saturday.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj yesterday, former state security advisor John Malok alleged that loyalists of the Nuer tribe who are currently serving in the government of Salva Kiir are not happy with the leadership of Joseph Monytuil.
He said that a rupture has surfaced between former finance official George Jiech Liah and Governor Monytuil after the latter accused him of mobilizing local youths to oppose to his government.
“Dr. Joseph does want anybody to criticize him, but that is the freedom of expression, even the president can be criticized,” Malok said.
Malok said he managed to foil an assassination attempt on the former director general after sending his own security men to protect him. He said that the former director general in now with him at home under his protection.
He alleged that a man by the name of Lt. Kou Delinga sought to arrest Jiech and then planned to kill him near Jebel. He said that Delinga is a relative of the governor.
“I am quite sure about this plan because we are all from Mayom County, and we know each other very well,” he added.
Malok slammed the governor for failing to unite the Nuer sections from Unity state who are still loyal to President Kiir. “That is why you see very many people are still sheltering in the UN base in Bentiu,” he said.
Likewise, the former finance official himself also claimed that he escaped an attempt on his life, saying in remarks published by Sudan Tribune that the perpetrators belong to the “governor’s security guards”.
“My life was rescued after I called former Unity state security advisor [John] Malok Matai who sent his close body guards to track me around Gudele areas,” he said.
Meanwhile, the current Unity state security adviser William Bajuoc Bakuet denied any knowledge about the incident. Speaking to Radio Tamazuj, Bakuet also dismissed claims of local youths opposing Monytuil’s leadership in the state.
