A new rebel movement allied to former presidential adviser on development calling itself the Eastern Front Army declared existence in South Sudan with an agenda to fight against the current government to achieve federalism.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj today, Abdallah Albert, who claims to be the leader of the newly formed rebel group pledged to seek dialogue in order to achieve peace in the country.
“Our priority is dialogue. We have not yet started our military operations,” he said.
He pointed out that the new rebel group will fight for the sake of people in Eastern Equatoria state.”The ongoing insecurity has forced us to form a new movement,” he said.
The former presidential adviser claimed the government of Imatong state has launched a campaign of arrests against local youth in the state. He threatened to fight should the government fails to bring about peace and stability in the country.
Abdallah, who had been loyal to the ruling National Congress Party in Sudan before joining SPLM party, vowed to fight against polices of the SPLM party. The rebel leader, who defected from Riek Machar’s group, accused the ruling party SPLM of encouraging tribalism in the country.
“We want a broad-based federal system to be introduced in South Sudan because what we have now is a central system of government. The system we want will solve our problems in the country,” he said.
According to the new rebel leader, their group is working to bring about peace to the people of Eastern state. “I urge the leaders to do what will benefit the people of South Sudan,” he said.
Abdallah had worked as a commissioner of Imatong locality, state minister of education and governor of Eastern Equatoria in Sudan. He served as Kiir’s adviser on development after the signing of 2005 peace agreement.
