The recently ousted mayor of Wau town, Arkangelo Anyar Anyar, says that during his time in office he managed to preserve security in the town, help resettle returnees, and crack down on criminal activity.
In an interview with Radio Tamazuj on Wednesday, Anyar reflected on the tasks that he accomplished and the challenges that he faced during his time in office.
He said that the priority of his government was maintaining security, and then followed by the provision of basic services to the citizens.
On security issues, he pointed out that his administration managed to bring to court many perpetrators of crimes, including those who committed murder, rape and robbery in Wau, which he said shows that the state government was very keen in dealing with criminal activities in the state.
During his time in office the state government also instituted a special court to deal with cases immediately. He said the court has already ruled in some cases while in others the final verdict is still pending.
As to land disputes, the ex-mayor stressed the land policies had been a success. “We have no cases of land dispute in Wau – people here are with the policy of land development,” he said.
Meanwhile, Anyar also pointed out that many returnees who came from Khartoum to Wau in recent years were allocated plots of land “without any questioning of from where do you come? Or in which state do you belong?”
