Abraham Wani, former deputy governor of Yei River State who joined the SPLM-IO faction allied to Riek Machar has accused the government of perpetrating human rights abuses on daily basis in the state.
“There are terrible things happening in the prisons, many people are being taken from their homes, if you have things inside your home, they will say you are supporting the opposition,” he said. “So many people are in the prisons in Yei, Juba and Maridi, people are being taken everyday,” he added.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj, Abraham criticized the incumbent governor’s leadership style. “Lokonga is everything in Yei, he is the government, he does not listen to anybody,” he said.
The former government official further said his six bodyguards were arrested by security agents with directives from the state governor in Yei. “In the last five days, the governor wrote a letter and arrested my soldiers, they are being beaten in the morning and evening, they are now in the prison,” he explained.
Abraham vowed to fight against the current government in order to liberate the people of South Sudan. He claimed that his forces are assembling in Yei, Kajokeji, Lainya and Morobo areas in preparation for joining the armed opposition faction in the area.
He urged the people of South Sudan to support the SPLA-IO faction to topple the current government for the sake of peace and development in the country.
