Kwot Omot Oriet, the former commissioner of the defunct Burator County in South Sudan’s Greater Pibor Administrative Area was on Wednesday wounded in a road ambush.
Ochudho Ochan, the former Pochalla county commissioner, told Radio Tamazuj on Thursday that the incident occurred when an armed group attacked an area between Pochalla town and Nyium.
“The former commissioner was attacked at an area along the Akobo River between Nyium and Pochalla town. He sustained gunshot wounds in the legs and the arm. The attackers took his bag and money amounting to 600 Ethiopian birr,” he explained.
Ochan said the former commissioner was airlifted to Juba for treatment.
The county police inspector, Amati Ochan, also confirmed the attack, adding that no one has been arrested over the incident.
Kwot served as a commissioner from January 2019 to February 2020.
