The Delegation of the European Union in South Sudan has called for the return of children abducted from villages in Ethiopia’s Gambella Region last Friday, where unknown perpetrators from South Sudan killed scores and abducted children during a brutal attack.
EU diplomats deplored the loss of life in the raid and pointed out that over one hundred Ethiopian children have been reported abducted.
The Ethiopian government says 13 villages were attacked, leaving 182 civilians dead along with 60 attackers.
“The EU expresses its condolences to the families of the victims and calls for the South Sudanese authorities to ensure the immediate return of the abducted children to their families and those responsible for this act of violence are held accountable,” read the statement.
“This attack is a tragic reminder of the need to achieve lasting peace, justice and rule of law in South Sudan.”
