EU calls for cessation of hostilities in conflict zones in Sudan

The European Union (EU) has called on the Sudanese government and armed opposition groups to cease hostilities in war-affected areas, while fighting is ongoing in the Blue Nile and South Kordofan region.

In a statement signed by its spokesperson Federica Mogherini, the EU welcomed the Roadmap Agreement developed by AU mediator Thabo Mbeki saying it is “an important achievement in the pursuit of peace in Sudan and in laying the foundation for an inclusive and comprehensive national consultation”.

Separately, multiple sources from South Kordofan told Radio Tamazuj that a number of wounded government soldiers arrived in Um Ambrabita and Al Obeid areas.

Meanwhile, Sudan’s Defense Minister Awad Mohamed Ahmed Ibin Auf accompanied by senior officers visited wounded soldiers at the Military Hospital in Omdurman and Al-Amal Hospital in Bahri suburb.

In the SPLM-N controlled territory, Nuba Reports quoted Dr. Tom Catena, who is the only surgeon in the rebel-controlled areas in the Nuba Mountains, as saying he was very busy in the operation room throughout the day after fighting and bombings.
