Ethiopia’s government has called on South Sudan’s warring parties to support the IGAD-led peace revitalization in Addis Ababa.

Ethiopia’s government has called on South Sudan’s warring parties to support the IGAD-led peace revitalization in Addis Ababa.

According to a statement issued by Ethiopia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, State Minister for Foreign Affairs, Mrs Hirut Zemene underlined that her government supports the ongoing national dialogue forum, and called upon the delegation to do all they can to support the IGAD-led South Sudan's peace process.

The Ethiopian official said this after holding discussions with members of South Sudan's national dialogue in Addis Ababa on Friday.

For their part, members of South Sudan's national dialogue committee expressed their support to the revitalization forum and commended Ethiopia for its significant role in seeking a lasting peace in South Sudan.

Meanwhile, leading civil society organization welcomed Ethiopia’s call for renewal of pledges from South Sudan’s warring parties to respect the revitalization process.

Edmund Yakani, executive director of the non-profit Community Empowerment for Progress Organization (CEPO), said in a statement that the call for renewal of pledges to support the peace process is timely.

“Ethiopia is a key influential member of IGAD…Ethiopia needs to be proactive as chair of IGAD now for making peace happens in South Sudan,” Yakani said.
