Gunmen killed an Eritrean trader in South Sudan’s Kapoeta State on Tuesday night, local government officials said.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Thursday, Kepoeta’s Minister of Information Joseph Kabaka confirmed the incident and identified the slain trader as Nebi Issa Baweldi.

He explained that the foreign trader was attacked in his shop in the town of Kapoeta. Kabaka pointed out that the motive in the killing of the businessman remains unclear.

The state minister noted that two suspects had been arrested in connection with the killing of the Eritrean trader.

Separately, a Kenyan national working in Kapoeta was injured in an attack by unknown assailants.

David Machawi, who works for Kapoeta Development Initiatives (KDI), was rushed to hospital for gunshot wounds on Wednesday.

Authorities said they were investigating the incident.
