The Episcopal Church of South Sudan has organized a thanksgiving procession in the capital Juba this morning.
Justin Badi Arama, Archbishop of the Episcopal Church, told Radio Tamazuj that the thanksgiving procession is being held to express gratitude to God at the last day of the year.
“The procession is actually a thanksgiving payer to thank God for his goodness to us throughout the year,” he said.
The religious peace march is under the theme, “Give Thanks to the Lord, Pursue Peace and Holy Life.”
“We mobilized our faithfuls to thank God for his goodness to us throughout the year 2018. We want our people to pursue peace, so we urge the people of South Sudan to embrace peace,” he said.
The Anglican primate called upon South Sudan leaders to implement the September peace agreement. “We are happy as church leaders because a peace agreement has been signed. We call upon our leaders to go ahead with the peace process,” he said.
“We thank God because we have signed a peace agreement in 2018. Also, we are also praying to God so that we live in peace in 2019,” he added.
The church leader called for reconciliation among fragmented communities in the country.” The church has a great role in the peace process,” he said.
