The Episcopal Church in Jonglei State has banned wearing of traditional attires among the women, saying such clothes often incite divisions among local communities.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Wednesday, the Episcopal Church Archbishop Ruben Akurdit Ngong said he banned and burnt traditional attires which incite division, promote atheism and idolatry.
He said they collected and burnt 2,809 clothes on Wednesday.
The new order, according to Akurdit, targets Christian women.
In Jonglei, wearing attires bearing names and symbols that represent their respective communities is a traditional practice among women.
