Hillary Luate Adeba, Episcopal Bishop of Yei, has urged the warring parties in South Sudan to find an amicable solution to the ongoing conflict in the country.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj after a visit to various refugee camps in northern Uganda, Bishop Luate said South Sudanese refugees in Uganda are experiencing deteriorating humanitarian conditions due to lack of food and other basic services.
“As they shared their painful stories with me at the various camps I visited, many were desperately crying for peace so that they can return to the country. They said they are ready to come back home if a peace deal is signed today, they are ready to go back home the following day,” said Adeba.
The religious leader called on the warring parties to embrace the spirit of political dialogue in order to put the country on the track of peace and development.
“The people in the camp are really not happy, and what I want to tell you is that they asked me when we will we go back home bishop, so I told them that I don’t know, but let us continue praying. The people are in dire need, they went to return back, “he said.
“Every day we are making this call for peace, the people are desperate and let all these people come home so that we can sit and discuss. The problem is that there is no political will to stop the war,” he added.
Adeba noted that the war mongers are enjoying the suffering of the people of South Sudan. He commended the government of Uganda for hosting the people of South Sudan, while hailing the UN refugees agency for providing food to the refugees.
