Emmanuel Murye Modi, Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Kajo-Keji has appealed for immediate humanitarian aid for the conflict-displaced people who left their homes in Kajo-Keji County to Ugandan borders due to security fears in the area.
In a press statement seen by Radio Tamazuj today, Bishop Murye said about 70% of the people of Liwolo County and others from Lainya, Morobo, and Yei who gathered in Liwolo camp for displaced people in Elegu, Kerwa and Ajio areas are currently living in dire humanitarian conditions, saying there are shortages of essential supplies.
“Dear people of God as you continue to pray for us, we are also appealing for financial and material support to help the displaced persons with food and medical services and those who have remained in Kajo-Keji,”said Emmanuel.
The bishop also appealed for logistical support for the diocese of Kajo-Keji in various areas within Kajo-Keji County as well as refugee camps. “The Church is encouraging people to stay if it means gathering at the churches for service,” he added.
The religious leader noted that the people of Kangapo, Kajo-Keji and Nyepo Counties have gone to Uganda’s refugee camps. He pointed out that local residents cannot stay in church compounds amid worsening humanitarian situation.
