Hotels in Juba are dumping waste into the River Nile and other protected water points, South Sudan’s Ministry of Environment said.
Environment Minister Deng Deng Hoc told Radio Miraya that his office has started conducting spot inspections after complaints from the community that their water sources were contaminated.
“Some hotels are doing well some others are not and they need to double their efforts in order to manage the waste more effectively and ensure that waste like empty bottles of water, cans of Coca-Cola, etc. should not be allowed to go into the stream going into the Nile or go directly into the Nile,” he said.
Deng said he will consult with the Minister of Justice on how to proceed with offending hotels.
