A conference on educational issues in the SPLA-North controlled area of Yabus in Blue Nile State resolved to introduce a new curriculum for both primary and secondary schools, replacing the Sudanese syllabus.
The conference also resolved to stop the use of Arabic in schools and replace it with English as the language of instruction in the rebel-controlled areas and refugee camps.
The participants rejected what they called “the National Congress Party’s syllabus”. They stressed that an alternative syllabus should be introduced during the war until a national curriculum that reflects Sudanese diversity is adopted. The educational conference was held on 25 April.
