Electric shock kills child, injures another in Rumbek

A medical doctor said one child was killed and another injured after suffering an electric shock in Rumbek town of Lakes State.

A medical doctor said one child was killed and another injured after suffering an electric shock in Rumbek town of Lakes State.

The incident happened in Rumbek market on Friday.

Dr. Barnaba Bol Amukpiu, the medical director of Rumbek hospital, told Radio Tamazuj on Friday a 10-year-old girl who was injured during the electric shock is currently receiving treatment at the health facility.

"The electric shock killed one child and injured a 10-year-old girl who is now receiving treatment. The health condition of the girl is stable and she is able to sit alone despite the injuries she sustained on her face,” explained Bol.

The medical director urged parents to keep children away from electrical installations. "Electrical wires around town are poorly connected. Parents and their children need to be careful with these wires,” Bol said.

He advised people to always seek services of qualified electricians, not those with less knowledge on electricity.
