An elderly refugee woman from Sudan’s Blue Nile State was shot dead Tuesday by a policeman in Maban County in South Sudan’s Upper Nile State.
The woman had fled to Maban to escape ongoing fighting in Blue Nile.
An eyewitness told Radio Tamazuj Tuesday that about 35 new arrivals from Blue Nile were on a trailer heading to the Maban refugee camps when a South Sudanese policeman suddenly open fire on the vehicle, killing the 65 year old woman.
“The refugee was shot in the head and died on the spot, so the refugees now are very angry about the incident while they question the absence of the local authorities at the scene during that incident,” the witness said.
