A 70-year-old man was on Thursday killed in a revenge attack in Uror County in Jonglei state, the police said.
Lt. Col. Peter Gatbel Machar, the Uror County police inspector, told Radio Tamazuj that the deceased, Biel Kpryom Malual, was killed while sleeping in his hut in Wickol’s Juet area in the wee hours of Thursday morning.
“The incident happened at 2 am on Thursday when the assailants dressed in military uniforms stormed the hut of this old man who was asleep and shot him dead in what we suspect to be a revenge attack while asleep,” he said.
The police officer said an investigation has been launched into the killing.
Meanwhile, Machot Gatluak Kenyjak, the Uror County commissioner, condemned the attack and called for calm.
“The old man was killed on Thursday at 2 am when a group of three men entered his house and shot him dead,” he said. “The incident is now being investigated.”
