Elderly Equatorian says SPLA wiped out Wonduruba village

Benedict Lojang Loku Kaden, an elder from Wonduruba village who fled to neighbouring Lainya County of South Sudan’s Central Equatoria State says that the South Sudanese army SPLA last month burnt down all the houses and citizens’ properties in the area.

He has challenged Vice President James Wani Igga and other government officials to go see for themselves what happened in Wonduruba Payam.

“The army did not spare anything: cattle, shelter, food, payam, medicines and shops, they left nothing,” said Benedict, 65 years old.

Benedict called on Salva Kiir’s government to respect human rights since a peace agreement has been signed.

The Equatorian elder reported deteriorating humanitarian and health conditions in Lainya County, saying the food given to them by the local authorities in Juba is inadequate.

“No utensils, no plastic sheets, no blankets, even salt in not there, so how can we live in Lainya here?” he explained. He called on the relevant authorities to provide food and shelter in Lainya.

Last Saturday the Red Cross distributed household items in Lainya to the people displaced by conflict from Wonduruba Payam. Enough supplies were brought for about 2113 households, including soap, buckets, blanks and mosquito nets, but officials said there are more than 2600 households

Benedict commented, “If Salva Kiir wants to destroy our area let him come to destroy all of us, we don’t have anything, because such an act is not good.

“Is this government for one side, there are no Equatorians working in the government? Dinka is the only ruler of this country?” he asked.

He pointed out that government troops have blocked UN peacekeepers from going to Wonduruba village. “Wani Igga and the ministers in Juba, we want you to come and see what happened in Wonduruba,” he said.
