A group of lawyers in El Obeid town in Sudan’s Kordofan State intend to file a lawsuit next week against students of the National Congress Party (NCP) for attacking a coalition of opposition students at Kordofan University
Osman Saleh, one of the lawyers, told Radio Tamazuj that they are now studying the case so that it can be presented to the prosecution. He said there are eyewitnesses who have already identified some of the assailants.
The lawyer pointed out that the criminal case will include all those who were involved in the incident, besides the authorities who failed to provide protection to the students.
“How did the University’s guards allow students in vehicles and with sticks to enter the campus?” he asked.
A group of students from the NCP party attacked a coalition of students aligned to opposition parties, wounding 19 students on Tuesday.
The incident reportedly took place when the opposition students’ collation wanted to submit a list of its nominees for elections in Kordofan University.
