Activists in El Geneina, West Darfur, have initiated a community-driven effort to provide psychosocial support and food assistance to over 300 displaced individuals in Ardamata following recent events in El Geneina.
Hussein Ahmed, the head of the Reform and Development Initiative, shared with Radio Tamazuj on Friday that their response was swift to the situation in Erdamata. Ahmed stated, “We quickly intervened to offer psychological support and facilitate the voluntary return of displaced and impoverished individuals, many of whom lost family members due to the recent events in the region. Our aim was to alleviate the negative impact on them and instill a sense of positivity.”
In addition to Ahmed’s comments, the initiative underscores their commitment to addressing the immediate needs of those affected by the events in El Geneina, emphasizing both psychological well-being and essential sustenance.
Ahmed has confirmed that the current situation has improved, with families opting to stay at home. However, they are grappling with challenges such as insufficient food and clean drinking water. He emphasized the initiative’s efforts in addressing these issues, stating, “We were able to bring in two water tanks to distribute water in homes and prepare meals for distribution in residential neighborhoods.”
Ahmed mentioned that the security situation in El Geneina is relatively stable, leading to a notable voluntary return of a number of women. He affirmed their ongoing commitment, stating, “After completing emergency operations, we will transition our focus to the field of peacebuilding.”
Providing insights into the scope of their assistance, Ahmed disclosed, “The initiative has delivered psychological support services and food aid to over three thousand displaced individuals.” He issued an appeal to organizations, urging them to contribute food supplies to support the returning families.
