Lakes state authorities say eight schools have been closed in Cueibet County following communal violence in the area.
Cueibet County Education Director Gabriel Maluac Yak says they are worried the schools could become targets in the violence that has sprung up along the county’s border.
The students have been integrated into other county schools that are still operational, though that has created additional challenges, including water shortages.
Lakes state Education Minister Dut Makoi Kuok says they are trying to get the situation under control as quickly as possible so the students can return to their schools.
