Eight border crossing points between Sudan and South Sudan are scheduled to be opened after the rainy season is over following the signing of an agreement, the Sudanese Interior Minister Ibrahim Mahmoud announced during a press conference.

“The implementation of the deal will facilitate the movement of citizens,” he said. The Minister also unveiled that the governments of Sudan and South South Sudan will work together in the construction of tarmac roads connecting Jebelin and Renk in Upper Nile State, and Heglig and Pariang in Unity State.

A railway connecting Nyala with Wau in Western Bahr el Ghazal will also be built and river transport between Kosti and Juba will be implemented.

Mahmud noted that the recent visit of a South Sudanese delegation, which included President Salva Kiir, to Khartoum normalized relations between the two countries and helped consolidate mutual benefits.
