Eight constituencies left out in Sudanese elections

Sudan’s National Elections Commission (NEC) announced that arrangements for the April elections are continuing on schedule.

Sudan’s National Elections Commission (NEC) announced that arrangements for the April elections are continuing on schedule.

El Hadi Mohamed Ahmed, head of the NEC’s polling control department, told Radio Tamazuj yesterday that campaigning will begin 24 February and will end 10 April. He said they received a court decision yesterday regarding nominations.

When asked about the conflict-affected states, Ahmed said that all states will be covered by the election, except seven geographical constituencies in South Kordofan and one constituency in Darfur.

An alliance of Sudanese opposition political parties under the Sudan Appeal declaration said it is extending its campaign beyond Khartoum and Gezira States to boycott the upcoming April elections in line with its stated goal of overthrowing the NCP-led government.
