Eid Al Fitr in Sudan, South Sudan to take place Wednesday

Sudan and South Sudan have announced that Tuesday was the last of Ramadan and the holy feast of Eid Al Fitr would take place on Wednesday in most Muslim countries, including Saudi Arabia and Qatar.

Sudan’s Islamic Fiqh Council declared that Wednesday is the first day of Eid Al-Fitr and that Tuesday was complementary to the 30 days of Ramadan. 

Abdullah al-Zubair, Secretary-General of the Islamic Fiqh Council, said it was impossible to sight the crescent of the month of Shawwal on Monday evening in Sudan and neighbouring countries, saying Tuesday was complementary to the 30 days of Ramadan.

For its part, the Sudanese Association for Astronomy and Space Sciences also announced that Wednesday 6 July is the first day of Eid al-Fitr and the first month of Shawwal.

Meanwhile, some civil servants in South Sudan began observing the Eid Al Fitr since Tuesday.

Food shortage for Eid in Raja

Separately, the chief of Forgi tribe in Raja county of South Sudan’s Western Bahr el Ghazal state said on Tuesday there is shortage of food and children’s clothes in the market during Eid al Fitr due to the attack on the area recently.

Thousands civilians as well as the governor fled Raja after attacks by an unknown armed group on Raja. Markets and government institutions were completely destroyed.

The Forgi chief sent his congratulations to all Muslims in South Sudan for Eid al Fitr, calling for peace and tolerance in the country.
