A delegation from the Egyptian House of Representatives arrived in Juba on Monday in an official visit that aims at enhancing relations between the two countries, according to Egyptian media.

The Egyptian delegation, headed by the speaker of the House of Representatives Ali Abdel-Aal, was received by Timothy Tot Chuol, Acting Speaker of South Sudan’s Parliament.

The Egyptian parliament’s speaker said the visit represents a bridge between the people of Egypt and the people of South Sudan, and is an affirmation of the solid relations between the two nations.

The visit is set to include a number of activities including meetings with South Sudan’s minister of agriculture, South Sudan’s acting parliament speaker, as well as other senior South Sudanese officials to discuss fostering relations between the two countries and to exchange views on issues of common interest.

President Salva Kiir, opposition leader Riek Machar and a handful of other groups signed the peace deal in September 2018. However the parties have failed to create a unified army and determine the number of states.

On November 7, President Salva Kiir and opposition leader Riek Machar agreed to give themselves another 100 days beyond the November 12 deadline to form a unity government.
