Egypt, WBG govt sign deal on fisheries, animal production

Egypt and South Sudan’s Western Bahr al Ghazal State (WBG) government have signed a 6.5 million dollar project on animal production and fisheries industry in Wau town.

The deal was signed on Thursday by Egypt’s Ambassador to South Sudan Ayman Al-Jammal and State Minister of Agriculture Michael Madut Chan.

Ambassor Al-Jammal explained that the project includes training of cadres in the two sectors for the development of the animal sector in order to change the culture of local communities in animal production.

He expected production of 500 tons of fish. He added that the project is expected to cost 1.5 million US dollars besides 5 million US dollars for a dairy project and that the Egyptian government will fund the two projects.

The Egyptian diplomat added the dairy project will be fully owned by South Sudan after 10 years with 20 South Sudanese workers and 5 Egyptian experts.

For his part, the state minister said the project comes as a result of visits by the state government to Egypt last year.

He noted the project includes milk production and fisheries industry that will continue for five years. Chan pledged to allocate land and provide any facilitation needed for the success of the two projects.
