The Egyptian Agency of Partnership for Development (EAPD) on Saturday sent medical aid to South Sudan, according to Egyptian media.
Egyptian ambassador to South Sudan Ahmed Bahaa El-Din said the shipment comes as part of supporting the health sector in South Sudan.
The shipment is the second medical assistance from Egypt to Juba in less than a year. The first cargo was sent in October 2018.
“Sending aid shipments to South Sudan reflects Egypt’s firm belief in the historical bonds and shared destinies of the peoples of both countries,” Bahaa El-Din said.
He explained that Egypt's keenness on supporting the health sector in South Sudan is an integrated policy that views health as one of the most important pillars of development in the Nile basin country.
In June, President Salva Kiir’s adviser for security affairs Tut Gatluak met Egypt’s leader Abdel Fattah al-Sisi in Cairo.
Kiir also met al-Sisi on the sidelines of the Forum on China–Africa Cooperation FOCAC 2018, which was held in Beijing in September 2018.
According to a statement issued at the time, the leaders had discussed developing cooperation between both countries.
