The Egyptian government has donated two metric tons of medical supplies to help the flood-affected population in South Sudan’s Jonglei state.
Speaking to Journalists on Wednesday during the handover ceremony at the Egyptian Embassy in Juba, Egyptian Ambassador to South Sudan, Mohamed Elmoatez Mostafa, said the donation comes as a result of an official request from South Sudan for medical supplies to help the people across the country.
“I am happy today to see the deputy minister of foreign affairs, present the gift which has arrived from Egypt to our brothers and sisters in Jonglei state to help them and support them face the humanitarian situation there. It’s about two tons of medication and also medical equipment. I am not a physician to tell you,” Ambassador Mostafa said.
Mostafa reiterated his government’s commitment to supporting the South Sudanese people noting that, this is not the first time Egypt has ever extended friendly support to South Sudan.
“We are looking forward to more support and more help because it is our duty and even despite the economic crisis all over the world, which has affected a lot of countries including Egypt and South Sudan, Egypt can not forget its duty towards the South Sudanese people at any time to help them and support them,” he added.
For his part, Deng Dau Deng, the deputy minister of foreign affairs commended the government of Egypt for its support.
“We are very much aware that the floods have affected several states of South Sudan and made the situation very difficult on behalf of the minister of foreign affairs. I would like to congratulate the people of Egypt and the government for having responded in time,” Deng said.
Deng said the medical supplies are part of the government’s request to Egypt.
According to him, the supplies will be transferred to Jonglei to help the people there.
