Egypt has transported humanitarian aid to South Sudan to reduce the suffering of civilians caught up in the ongoing civil war in the world’s youngest nation on Monday.

The humanitarian aid was shipped to Juba International Airport by an Egyptian military aircraft.

The batch of aid, including food and medical supplies, is the first of several that Egypt plans to transport to Juba in the coming months, according to a senior Egyptian official.

Speaking to reporters at Juba Airport, the Egyptian Assistant Foreign Minister for Sudan and South Sudan Affairs, Ambassador Ahmed Fadil said his government supports the government of South Sudan and its people.

He revealed that Egypt also supports the national dialogue called for by President Salva Kiir in order to bring about peace in South Sudan.

The Egyptian official declined to disclose the cost of food and medical aid sent to South Sudan yesterday.

In January, President Kiir visited Cairo in January for talks with Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, including deepening bilateral ties between the two countries.
