South Sudan’s Ministry of General Education said preparations are in place to launch a distance learning program in response to the COVID-19 outbreak.

South Sudan’s Ministry of General Education said preparations are in place to launch a distance learning program in response to the COVID-19 outbreak.

Speaking at a press conference in Juba on Thursday last week, Education Minister Awut Deng said lessons for core subjects like English, Mathematics and Sciences for primary and secondary school students will be delivered over radio stations and national television.

“The distance learning program is in conjunction with some of our key partners like UNICEF and Girls Education South Sudan (GESS). We are launching a distance learning program to deliver lessons on core subjects like English, Mathematics and Science over radio stations and television,” Awut said.

She added, “I would like to take this opportunity to inform all our parents to commit the children to listen to radio at the scheduled time. Lessons will be delivered in the morning and in the evening”.

The minister urged students to revise notes and textbooks provided.
