South Sudan’s National Examination Council, under the Ministry of General Education, released the 2024 Certificate of Primary Examination (CPE) results Tuesday, nearly five months after the exams were administered from November 18-22, 2024.
The delay in releasing the results caused candidates to miss enrollment for secondary school. The National Examination Council (NEC) cited a lack of funding as the reason for the holdup.
Speaking at the announcement in Juba, Kuyok Abol Kuyok, the national minister of general education and instruction, said the exams were conducted in 1,665 schools nationwide, clustered into 551 examination centers.
“A total of 79,010 candidates, 43,266 males, 35,740 females registered for the examinations. However, only 77,264 candidates, that is 42,257 males, 35,007 females attempted the examinations. About 1,746 were reported absent,” Kuyok said.
He said 73,326 candidates — 40,427 males and 32,899 females — passed the exams, representing an overall pass rate of 94.9%.

Pasca Morwa, headteacher of JCC Model Primary School, said their consistent high performance is due to hard work.
“So, I have qualified teachers, dedicated teachers. The results came out with a surprise because we are working. We are working tirelessly. We are coming here from 6; we are going from 6. That’s why our results are real. The results can tell us we are working. We are not saying it by mouth. Through experience, through dedication, that is the result. So, it’s not the first time,” she said.
“Last year, not even last year. Some years, but we are leading. Not just for this year, not just for last year. We are doing a job. If we go back to our records, you will know it. It’s not the first time because we are going through our experience,” she concluded.
