Education deteriorating in Habila locality, South Kordofan: Official

The intensified conflicts South Kordofan have seriously affected the education system in the state.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj, the Education Supervisor of Habila locality in South Kordofan, El Fateh Mohamed Jebel, reported that the quality of education in his locality is rapidly declining. He attributed the problem to the deteriorating economic situation in Habila.

He explained that the schools are being run by parents and some local residents. All schools witnessed high dropout numbers.

“The administrations of various schools in the area had imposed nominal school fees, but most of the parents cannot afford to pay the fixed fees,” the supervisor said.

“The majority of the parents are farmers but due to an unsuccessful farming season this year, they have become even more desperate. And government support for the education sector in Habila is nil,” Jebel added.
