Former Editor-in-Chief of El Tabeer newspaper Wazir Michael has decided to sue South Sudan’s National Security Service over closure of the paper last year, according to a media source in Juba.

The editor is reported to have said that all procedures are under way to sue the NSS in court.

El Tabeer was an Arabic daily paper established by Greater Yambio company last year, after the shutdown of another paper edited by Michael, Al Rai, in 2014.

Michael resigned from his position as editor-in-chief last December after National Security Service personnel warned him to cease publication.

He announced at a press conference at the time that he decided to offer his resignation so as not to hurt the interests of the newspaper.

But Allison Jadden, El Tabeer’s manager, speaking at the same press conference, said that the administration of the newspaper do not want to accept the resignation of Wazir but he insisted on it.
