ECSS consecrates new Archbishop in Upper Nile

The Episcopal Church of South Sudan (ECSS) last week installed Bishop Joseph Garang Atem as the new Archbishop for Upper Nile Internal Province replacing retired Bishop Hillary Garang Deng.

The Episcopal Church of South Sudan (ECSS) last week installed Bishop Joseph Garang Atem as the new Archbishop for Upper Nile Internal Province replacing retired Bishop Hillary Garang Deng.

The ceremony was presided over by the ECSS Primate Archbishop Justin Badi Arama.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj after his consecration, Bishop Joseph Garang said his main duty is to plant seeds of peace in his province.

"I am not your president but among you in order to establish peace values ​​as Christians."

He said he was ready to work with all the bishops in the province to spread peace and the word of God to all despite the visible challenges of poor roads and natural calamities.

For his part, the outgoing Retired Bishop Dr. Hillary Garang Deng appealed to the new Bishop to unite and stand with the believers, advocate for education and highlight the true role of the Church by teaching the word for peace and reconciliation.
