Professor Marial Awou, the Dean of the Faculty of Economics at University of Juba, warned of a possible economic collapse if there is no peace and stability in South Sudan.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj, Marial Awou said that South Sudan economy will never recover without peace , resumption of oil production in Unity state and stability.

He attributed the deficit in the 2016/ 2017 budget to the ongoing war and costs of implementation of the signed peace agreement in August 2015.

The economist pointed to a possible economic collapse and rising prices at the market. Marial called on the warring parties to bring an end to the ongoing war and reduce government expenditures in South Sudan.

“There should be steps to reduce government expenditures and support production sectors, so if these things are done, the economy will recover gradually, “he said.
