Eastern Nile urges national government to spray pesticides on crops

The Ministry of Agriculture and Animal Resources in South Sudan’s Eastern Nile State has complained that swamps of birds and locusts would cause failure of this year’s harvest season if the national government does not intervene.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Animal Resources in South Sudan’s Eastern Nile State has complained that swamps of birds and locusts would cause failure of this year’s harvest season if the national government does not intervene.

Agriculture Minister Kur Chan told Radio Tamazuj on Friday that this year’s harvest season would be promising, while expressing fears that pests could destroy crops.“We are almost reaching the harvest season, but we fear that pests like birds and locusts could destroy crops in early October,” said Chan.

Kur called on the National Ministry of Agriculture in Juba to send an aircraft to spray pesticides on agricultural fields in Eastern Nile State before October.
